Hi, I am Shelly Hooper Bentley, and this is my twenty-seventh year teaching, with twenty of them being at Cherokee Elementary. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and ESOL I am a 1989 graduate of Cedartown High School. In 1994, I graduated from the University of West Georgia with an Early Childhood and Learning Disabilities Degree. In 1999, I graduated with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and Certification in (ESOL) English as a Second Language.
Family is an important part of my life. I am married and have two beautiful daughters. My hobbies include photography, lake life, Georgia football, and listening to music.
My Philosophy of Education is that every child should feel safe and comfortable in my classroom. My classroom should be an environment full of nuturing and enriching experiences. Students should feel that school is more than just learning; it is a place where they can come for guidance, structured routine, and feel loved.
Individualized instruction is an integral part of my classroom. All children learn differently and their needs must be met. In order to meet all needs, the lessons I create must be structured into learning modalities by including auditory, kinesthetic, and visual techniques. These modalities can be applied through cooperative learning, integration of technology, as well as guided instruction within an environment where children will use the hands-on approach, self- discovery, and real life connections. Students will develop confidence as they learn and succeed. Discipline will be a part of their daily routine so that learning is not interrupted.
Learning should be fun and exciting and the central focus of the school day. My classroom should be an inviting place for students, parents, and peers. My hope is that children will leave my classroom with a sense of accomplishment while feeling successful, challenged, and loved just by being themselves.
Mrs. Shelly Bentley
