4/3/2020 - As a result of Governor Kemp's executive order to close schools for the remainder of the year, the District has created another Q & A for our parents, students and community.  These questions and answers are to provide everyone guidance on how the District will address the remainder of the school year.  As always, we greatly appreciate the tremendous job of going above and beyond to ensure our children are a priority.  Continue to check our Facebook and website for continued updates.

4/1/2020 - Earlier this afternoon, Governor Kemp signed an Executive Order closing public schools for the remainder of the school year. We realize there will be many questions concerning assignments, grading, promotion/retention, and graduation.  We will be gathering information from the state department over the next few days.  Please check our website and Facebook each day for important updates.

3/29/2020 - Wrap-around Resource Guidefocusing on five areas: 

Talking with Kids about COVID 19  - Resources to empower families with “kid-friendly” information to help ease the fear.

Mental Health Resources – Local and state help hotlines are highlighted.  Various mental health resources are listed.   

Insurance Resources – Links to state assistance programs and state health benefit plans are provided. 

Financial/Community Assistance/ Unemployment – Community resources such as food banks, childcare resources, credit card/ cellphone relief information and links to the financial assistance programs are listed.  Under unemployment families will find links to wage assistance programs, filing for unemployment, and links to job applications with various companies.    

Home Resources/Student Activities – Links to student activities such as home cooking classes, ACT/SAT prep, virtual tours, on-line art classes, etc

 

3/26/2020 - Polk School District will be altering the locations and times for food distribution for Grab and Go Meals.  Please see the information listed below.

3/26/2020 - Earlier today, Governor Kemp signed an Executive Order closing public schools through April 24th. The order stated that:

"...public elementary and secondary schools shall remain closed for in-person instruction through April 24, 2020 with limited exceptions for meal preparation and distribution, continuity of distant learning opportunities, and any other necessary functions as determined by the local school superintendent."

3/22/2020 - Due to the Governor's extension of the closures through spring break, we are providing additional distance learning packets for Week 3 and Week 4.  Week 4 is being provided should another extension of school closure is necessary. An electronic copy is available on our website under the Distance Learning tab.  Please read the messages below for additional information.

3/20/2020 - Attention Seniors!!! The attached announcement was made today by the University System of Georgia.  Instead of using SAT/ACT scores, they will temporarily by using your GPA for admission decisions due to COVID-19.  *UGA and Georgia Tech are exceptions.  Contact your high school counselor via email if you have questions.

3/16/2020 - Late this afternoon, Governor Kemp issued an executive order closing all public elementary, secondary (middle and high), and post-secondary public schools in Georgia from March 18, 2020 to March 31, 2020.  Please find the letter from Superintendent Laurie Atkins, as well as the executive order from Governor Kemp.

3/10/2020 - The Department of Public Health released a new statement late last night concerning the five additional presuptive positive COVID-19 cases in Georgia.

3/9/2020 - Polk School District is working daily to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff.  We are aware of the confirmed COVID-19 case in Polk County; however, at this time there are no ties to anyone in our school system.  We are closely monitoring and receiving updates from the Polk County Health Department, Georgia Department of Public Health, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  In an effort to keep our students, employees, and families safe, we are committed to following the most current recommendations from these agencies.

3/7/2020 - The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) developed a PowerPoint about the coronavirus that can be used to share information with the public. DPH encourages state and local government agencies, schools, places of worship, businesses, and others to use this slide deck.
