Many parents have reached out to the district with their concerns over the flu and absences their students are generating. This flu season has been horrible, and it has affected a great number of students and employees. The district is taking precautions with the cleaning of our buildings. Just this past weekend, for the second time, we have had cleaning crews at each school do a deep disinfecting, specifically focusing on water fountains, door handles and desks. We are monitoring the absences at each school carefully to determine if additional steps need to be taken.
We appreciate parents keeping students at home when they are exhibiting flu symptoms. In doing so, we realize this will be resulting in a higher rate of absences; however, we have no choice but to make sure we are not recycling and spreading the illness. Please make sure you provide the school with any doctor's notes you may have so their attendance can be marked appropriately.
We are also keeping this in mind when addressing make-up work. Our teachers are working diligently to catch up our students that have missed days due to illness and doctor’s appointments. Several parents have expressed concerns over absences and making up work in a timely manner. We assure you that if your children are making every effort to make up missed work; their absences should not affect their grade. Should any concerns or difficulties arise in getting your children caught up due to illness, please contact the school immediately. Polk School District has very empathetic and caring educators who work every day to ensure our students are successful.
